This is a website dedicated to a very distinctive dinghy design that for a while was the fastest, most innovative high-performance single-handed one-design in the world, and despite the arrival on the scene of the 29er and 49er and other high-performance designs, the truth remains that in its day the MX-Ray broke the mold on what could be achieved in this form factor. The boat was designed, built and promoted by Vlad Murnikov, a talented designer who developed a world-wide sales and support network for the MX-Ray from his workshop near Boston.

This site is a non-commercial project intended for the benefit of past, present and future sailors of the now "exctinct" MX-Ray dinghy. We welcome your emails with suggestions and tips for sailing, restoring, or building these quirky high-performance dinghies.

Maybe there are enough LASER sailors out there who feel a need to "upgrade" their ride - you might say, to "PIMP" their ride, and there are a few of us around who be glad to chip in to get the MX-Ray in front of the Olympic Sailing Committee to propose we do just that. The Revolution is only just getting underway!!

For all I know, the MX-Ray may STILL be the world's fastest single-handed dinghy design, but is not the fastest production design because it has not been built for many years and no one knows what ever happened to the molds, the plans, the measurements, the underlying math.

The pictures on this website are partly my own photos of my racing yellow MX-Ray which is based near Tokyo, and my scans of some of the original promotional material that Vlad was kind enough to send me when I ordered the boat. I have taken the liberty of "borrowing" a few other snaps of the boat in action that I have stumbled upon on the Web.
